QUESTION

Dog sitter fell on her property

Asked on May 28th, 2024 on Animal Law - Washington
More details to this question:
We dropped in our golden retriever with a dog boarder. The dog boarder has done boarding for our dog many times over the past six months. So, she knows about our dog's temperament. This time when we came to pick our dog, he got excited and pulled on the boarder. The boarder was not wearing any shoes, was on her property. She fell down due to the dog's pull. She then was able to get up and walk. She also handed over our dog and the transaction needed. A day later she asks my husband and I to pay for medical since she is in paina nd wants to see a doctor. Are we liable?

Generally the answer is yes. Dog owners are strictly liable in most states for injuries their pet causes to a third party. Hopefully, you have homeowners insurance that covers you for dog bite liability. Contact your carrier to find out.
