Pico went in for vomiting, nothing to do with diabetes but his blood sugar according to the vet was 400 so I was told to give him 5 units, which I only gave 4 because he had not eaten and his normal dose is 10 units with a full meal, treats and 1/2 T of peanut butter for his vitamins. I had given him 3 1/2 units before without eating and he was okay. But unknown to me and without my consent while in the vet's care, he gave him 8 additional units of insulin knowing he had nothing to combat this insulin. Pico died 8 hours later of diabetic coma. I had no idea why Pico was acting walking then falling down, walking fallen down, so took him to another vet and he couldn't explain either because unknown to me was the lethal injection of insulin. I thought maybe he was dying ... and he was but not because it was his time, but because the vet killed him.
First - you will do well NOT to refer to your pet as a "furbaby" as it conjure up radicallized hyper sensitive animal rights activist social justice warrior conotations that will not only NOT help you find a lawyer but will likely drive them away. That stated, you will need to ge ta complete copy of the vet records for all vets involved and have them reviewed by a vet, as an expert and at some expense, to see what the record show happened. As it appears that your pet may have had a complicated medical history this wil lneed to be addressed directly by the expert. IF the expert finds some fault on the part of a vet, then you would have a potential claim to pursue. Be prepared to pay out of pocket for such a lawyer as 99% of vet malpractice cases are not cost effective simply due the status of pets as personal property.
