QUESTION

A payroll check bounced after I cashed, can charges still be pressed?

Asked on Nov 06th, 2015 on Bankruptcy - Michigan
More details to this question:
I recently found out a payroll check I cashed at a party store a few months ago bounced. The police contacted me, I was unaware the check had bounced. I've spoken with the store owner the check was for $1600 I just gave him $350 he wants the full amount in 14 days or says he's prosecuting, I will be issued a warrant, and go to jail. I can't afford to pay the full amount, he doesn't want to make payment arrangements. If I continue to give him money weekly can he still press charges?

It maker of the check is liable, you were the endorser and must pay the party store if the maker of the check does not make it good. You do not have a criminal liability unless you forged the check or knew it was not good when you cashed it, generally.
