More details to this question:
My daughter has terminal cancer and has moved into our home. She wants me to sign as co-owner of her checking account so I can pay her bills when she is no longer able. Will that make me liable for her medical debts after she passes?

Being on the bank account would not make you liable, but make sure you do not co-mingle your funds. Also, you should be a signatory only. Liability for her medical debts would be based on guarantees you sign with the providers or certain statutes that hold certain people responsible.

As a mere co-signer on her accounts you should not be liable unless you use that power to pay yourself funds.
