More details to this question:
I am in foreclosure, served 3/12 I am trying to get a home modification and it is a lenthy process, I may be able to pay my back payments off soon but I have heard horror stories about the banks atty fees and interest tacked on..I now owe about $10,800 in arrear payments as quoted by the bank, but am waiting on a reinstatemnt amount form the attys they hired, I may not have enough..what is max can lawyers in NY charge for this?-- and as I said I was served 3/12/2013
Lawyers can charge a "max" of whatever they can get a client to pay. However, you need to answer the case to get on the list for a modification conference. Your answer will be late, and a motion may be required to do it now. The modification process is meant to be user friendly, and you do not need a lawyer. I would charge only a few hundred dollars to get you started.
