Can creditor add derogatory information to a closed account?

More details to this question:
I had a credit card that was closed by creditor, the account was in good standing at time of closure. The creditor re-open the account just to add derogatory information. I'm thinking this is wrong.

If the information is not correct then you can file a dispute with the credit reporting agency. You can also check out the information at the Federal Trade Commission: www.FTC.gov.

The only issues are (1) whether the information is accurate or not, and (2) whether it is less than 7.5/ 7 years old. If it is accurate and timely, the time when it was listed is not important.

You should certainly dispute this item with the creditor and all three credit reporting bureaus.
