QUESTION

Can I proceed to change jobs or do I have to wait if I file for chapter 7 because of a drastic decrease in pay and the inability to pay my debts?

Your Chapter 7 filing won't be affected by changing job.

If you change jobs after filing a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, no one is likely to care. Bankruptcy law measures you eligibility based on your earnings at the time you filed.

You are required to report any expected changes in income or expenses over the coming year in your schedules. So if you know you are changing jobs and the impact that will have on your income, you must report it.
