QUESTION

Do I qualify for bankruptcy?

Asked on Sep 20th, 2012 on Bankruptcy - Massachusetts
More details to this question:
I have one credit card bill (my only credit card) which I pay every month, but I have still maxed it out with groceries, one or two coffees a day for energy to work, and work clothes. Not an extravagant spender or earner. Usually conscientious. Card bill and numerous medical bills, totaling maybe $15,000-maybe more, maybe less. I suffer from depression and anxiety from p.t.s.d. and also the finances. I work full-time but am currently unable, mentally, to take on a second job as I have done in the past. My job before this one allowed me to work more hours, but this one I average about 30-35 hrs/wk., and I began leaning on the card for groceries house necessities, and a couple of car rentals for family gatherings. I have no car or house. I'm registered with the Dept. of Mental Health and am terrified and embarrassed about considering bankruptcy. Therapist says it's the easy way out but I think I need it. I would appreciate any input. Thank you for your time.

It sounds like you would be eligible for bankruptcy protection.   Absent a previous filing for bankruptcy, you maybe eligible to file for bankruptcy protection.  You should contact a local bankruptcy attorney to determine the appropriateness of filing, as there may be a bar against you filing if you have recently filed.  Most bankruptcy attorneys offer a free initial consultation. This is not intended to be legal advice, and is general in its nature. No attorney-client relationship exists or is formed by this information. Furthermore, this does not represent the views or opinions of LexisNexis or its affiliated companies.
