QUESTION

How do I get my name removed from a debt resolution case?

Asked on Oct 26th, 2011 on Bankruptcy - New Jersey
More details to this question:
My ex is a joint on my credit union account. Years ago, he decided not to pay some bills so he had a judgment against him which caused my credit union account to be frozen. I have had no contact with him for almost a year. I have contacted the debt collectors and the local court house, but have been told there is nothing I can do. My main issue is that my mortgage is associated with this account.

If the account is still a joint account then you have a problem. See if you can open a new account and change everything to that account. Otherwise, his creditor is entitled to 50% of the joint account.
