QUESTION

How do I inform small claims court that I cannot attend?

Asked on Jan 13th, 2016 on Bankruptcy - Michigan
More details to this question:
I received a subpoena to testify as a witness for the defendant in a small claims case. It was delivered b his brother in law (not an official court officer). I cannot make the Subpoena due to the fact that i will be out of town. He will not take my phone calls because he is not on speaking terms with me. Since it is small claims, there is no Lawyer to contact. How do I alert the court that I will not be in attendance?

You must inform the court which may, or may not, reschedule. Normally it will. The subpoena is valid even though it was not served by a court officer.
