That will depend on the situation. The court cost is $306 and depending on your situation a reasonable cost for a competent attorney will range from $800 to $1,500 for a Chapter 7. Beware of any attorney that says they will do it for less.

The court filing fee for a chapter 7 is $306. Attorney fees will vary depending on your situation. Please understand that filing for bankruptcy is a very complicated process. It is wise to talk to an experienced bankruptcy attorney before deciding to take this important step. Most Arizona bankruptcy attorneys offer a free consultation about the basics of bankruptcy.

Chapter 7 legal fees are not regulated. A bankruptcy attorney is engaged in private practice and can set fees for services at anything s/he wishes. Court filing fees for Chapter 7 are $306 in addition to the attorney fees. And you will be required to complete pre-bankruptcy credit counseling ($20 - $60) and complete a financial management class ($8 - $50). Your attorney may also require a "due dilligence" credit report which costs $30 - $50. Keep in mind you get what you pay for and if you have complications, it will cost more. A cheap attorney that doesn't provide the services you expect or doesn't understand your issues is no bargain. Expect to pay in the neighborhood of $1,500 with all costs at a minimum.

In my jurisdiction competent representation ranges from $1000$2000. Some lawyers advertise $500 bankruptcies, but that is probably bait and switch. Petition preparers advertise low fees for filling out the forms, but those cases are often dismissed. There is a filing fee of $306 and you also have to do a credit counseling course that costs $50 or less.

The filing fee for chapter 7 is $306. An attorney's fee is around $1200. Do not think that people who prepare bankruptcy petitions can actually give legal advice or file motions or appear in court for you. They charge a lot less than attorneys do, but they cannot legally give advice and simply do not know as much about bankruptcy as attorneys do.
