You can file bankruptcy by contacting a lawyer, document preparer, or you can go onto the bankruptcy website for the forms.

Thank you for your important question. You need to hire an experienced bankruptcy lawyer. Usually, the chapter 7 bankruptcy can be prepared and filed within 7 to 10 days if you possess all of the necessary information.

Filing for bankruptcy can be a complex process or an easy process. Be mindful, however, that "easy" is in the sense that it is "easy" for, for example Kobe Bryant or LeBron James, to dunk. The best approach is to look for an experienced bankruptcy specialist who offers a free initial consultation and take that consultation as early as possible so you become familiar with your options and duties as far as possible in advance of filing. In addition, except in rare circumstances, for more reasons than I can discuss here, it is best to hire an attorney actually to represent you. We offer a free initial consultation. Contact us to set up an in-person consultation.

I am not in a position to explain in a limited number of characters how to file bankruptcy without attorney representation. Too many things can go wrong to take this kind of risk and the cost to hire an experienced attorney to represent you is really quite modest. I can tell you that I have represented other attorneys, doctors and even the staff employed at the bankruptcy court, and if these educated & experienced people feel they need a lawyer to represent them, why would you feel you do not need representation?

The first step is to schedule an initial consultation with a bankruptcy attorney to evaluate your situation. While you are permitted to file a bankruptcy case without a lawyer it is often not a very good idea. People can, and do, lose assets and money unnecessarily when they file without benefit of competent counsel.
