What can we do about the insurance money that wasn't used for what its intended? What can insurance do to us if they discover?

More details to this question:
Back in 2008 we had some hail damage done to the roof of our house and garage. We filed an insurance claim and were paid $6200.00 for house roof and $1150.00 for garage roof. We used the money and did not replace anything. I am aware that this is a bad idea, but there is nothing we can do about money spent now. Recently the insurance company did an outside inspection in which they are asking about the garage roof, which they said appears to need replacement. They are asking why it doesn't appear to have been replaced in said claim in 2008. They want us to call by August 15th to give an answer. They are only asking about the garage roof.
