QUESTION

What can we do to prevent the code enforcement from taking our house?

Asked on Jan 24th, 2014 on Bankruptcy - Michigan
More details to this question:
Code enforcement has fined us for having stuff in our front yard. It has been awhile and we haven't been able to pay the fine. Now, they say they are taking our house and we need to get a lawyer. What can we do to prevent this and is it in our favor that the house is still my husband's sister's name and she is deceased?

You need to get a lawyer to examine this immediately. Pertinent issues include whether the fine can be levied against you and whether the city has to open an estate.

Pay the fine.. if you cannot afford to pay the fine.. how about asking for time to sell the house so you can pay the fine you will need to file a probate action to sell it to clear title.
