QUESTION

501(c)(3) using a dba

Asked on Dec 04th, 2015 on Business Law - California
More details to this question:
My 501(c)(3) MR healthcare organization has an affiliated section for technologists. They fall under the same tax ID but do have their own set of bylaws and board of directors, however ultimately the main organization has authority. They are currently listed as the Section for Magnetic Resonance Technologists and are interested in changing their name to the Society for Magnetic Resonance Technologists for marketing purposes. Can they do this as a DBA (doing business as)? Or are they simply able to change their name and make the adjustment in both sets of bylaws?

THis has not been set up quite right  it is one foot in in one and the other one elsewhere.  They can have a division called XYZ and just like GM has Dodge, and file a fictitous business statemement under GM.   And then they change that.
