QUESTION

Can a manager fire my sister for something I did?

Asked on May 13th, 2013 on Business Law - Texas
More details to this question:
I have a phone insurance with Best Buy and sent my phone to get repaired. When she took the phone to Best Buy since she works there, the gentlemen told her it was not required anymore to turn the phone in anymore. Now that the new phones come in they are now asking her for the old phone and telling her she either has to pay for the phone that wasn't turned in or they will report her to HR and have her fired. The phone was purchased under my name and the insurance is also under my name. I don't see how this has anything to do with her.

It may not have anything to do with her, but absent an employment agreement to the contrary, in most states (I don't know specifically about Texas) an employer can fire an employee for any reason not prohibited by statute (such as race, religion, whistleblowing, etc).
