PNC informed me today, that my account is inactive, after my debit card was declined four days ago. They never informed me beforehand, that it was inactive. I continue to receive monthly statements with a positive balance, yet I cannot access my funds. I have had several correspondences with them this year, even with a new acct. rt. #, because PNC bought out my old bank. (National City) They even informed me that my old National City checks can still be used. Reason: Account inactivity since Feb. of this year. However, I was never led to believe my account was inactive. I never received any letter, phone call or e-mail regarding this. My monthly statements continue to be e-mailed to me, with a positive balance. This last Tuesday morning, I made a purchase with my debit card at Wal-mart for 94 cents. My balance in my checking account is decisively more than my purchase, yet I was told my debit card was declined. All my information with PNC bank is 100% complete and updated. Help please
In an era of enhanced scrutiny for fraud, many banks are very carefully looking at accounts for evidence of misuse. Accounts which have been dormant and suddenly come back to life are particular candidates for fraud because of the possibility that the account owner is dead, disabled or simply not paying attention for any number of possible reasons. The funds in the account are still yours. You should visit the bank branch and get this cleared up. If you are dissatisfied with the quality of the resolution, you can close your account, withdraw all of the funds, and open a new account at another bank.
