QUESTION

Can I sue?

Asked on Sep 05th, 2014 on Business Law - California
More details to this question:
Hi, so I am getting tutored and I found out that the education center have overcharged me A LOT! I've asked friends how much they paid for 100 hours of tutoring and they said $1000-$2000. I was charged for the same amount of hours for $5000+! My parents worked really hard to come up with this kind of money for my education, so knowing that I am being overcharged is nit appealing. I have not used up the hours yet. Can I sue them? Should I try and resolve the issue with them first to see if I can get my money back? Thanks.

Even if you were tutored by the same tutor, I am aware of no requirement that the service has to charge everyone the same rate, as long as it doesn't discriminate on some basis prohibited by statute (e.g. race, religion, gender, etc.)  There is nothing unlawful about a dealership selling you a car for $5,000 and selling the same car to your friend for $4,000; if just means your friend negotiated a better deal.
