double tax charge

Asked on Jan 25th, 2013 on Business Law - Florida
More details to this question:
I am being charged double tax. I purchased a couch at Aarons and I chose the 120 days same as cash option, Total cost $2,000 total dollars plus tax (@7%) 2,140 total. I went to the store about 20 minutes ago and paid $500.00 dollars toward my purchase and they only credit me 467.29 and 32.71 in taxes. I spoke to the manager about this and why they are charging me double tax. The manager said it was for the taxes on the 500.00 dollars I just paid. How can they charge me taxes again when the taxes have already been added to the purchase? Please help

The tax on $500 is $35. You only paid $32.71 tax. You gave them $500 which they calculated to be a payment of both $467.39 in principal and $32.71 in tax, so you were not double taxed.   charles Sanford
