QUESTION

have I committed a crime?

Asked on Jun 25th, 2013 on Business Law - Florida
More details to this question:
I did a brick paved job for someone who, upon being satisfied, wrote me a final check. 10 days later, he called to complain about there being a problem..but I was away on a short vacation with my wife. Upon my return, I could not get over to his house right away...we argued and it wasn't a nice conversation. I felt like I was going to be "ambushed" if I showed up...he finally told me to never come on his property again. I wrote an agreement for my work and he signed it. At the time I was not a licensed contractor, but I am now. This guy called the police and now a detective from economic crimes wants to talk to me...not sure what to do.

Florida law provides that an unlicensed contractor can be prosecuted for a third-degree felony. Additionally, there are civil remedies for being an unlicensed contractor, namely having the entire contract voided. It's important for you to consult with an attorney before you speak with the police. Speaking with the police will not help you.
