I rented a car on Turo and initially had no issues. However, hours after returning the car via remote check-in, I received an email claiming there was damage, specifically a scratch that could cost up to $20,000. I did not cause any damage and made sure the car was fine upon drop-off; however, I was unable to take photos after returning the car because I was in a rush to get home to my baby. I didn't purchase rental insurance, and although I have contacted Turo customer service and filed a dispute, I've received no resolution. How can I effectively address this situation and prove my case to avoid being scammed?
No easy answer to this as it is too fact intensive. If you did not buy insurance and did not take pictures on turn in to prevent such claims, you are likely in a difficutl position to defend the claim. You will need to retain a lawyer to address this directly.
