If you get fired from a job because you could not get a doctor''s excuse but the job never asked for one before can they be sued for that?

I recently called in to my job to let them know about a sickness i have that would not allow me to do my job as they would want. Before when I called off with this company they never asked for a doctors excuse but now they are, and i''m not sure if they would give me a excuse for diarrhea.
