More details to this question:
I was scheduled to work 11am -1am two days in a row. We''ve never been scheduled this way before. I immediately said I couldn''t, wrote an email that I couldn''t then tried to get the shifts covered. When the days came I worked my regular day shift and left in the evenings. I was threatened w being fired then removed from all future shifts. I will prob be officially fired soon idk.
In a word, yes. In the absence of an employment contract or similar arrangement, an employee may generally be fired at any time for any reason or no reason at all, including refusal to work the hours insisted by the employer.
