QUESTION

Need to legally remove myself from a LLC in SC

Asked on Jan 11th, 2012 on Business Law - South Carolina
More details to this question:
I''m listed as as one of the "Organizers" on our Articles of Corporation and I no longer am with the company. I want to ensure that I am no longer legally tied to this entity. What do I need to remove myself as an Organizer? I contacted the Secretary of State''s office and they stated that we had to dissolve our LLC, then file to create another one...that just doesn''t seem like its right. What if we had been in business for 20 years or so, would that company have to close because one of the Organizers either passed away or wanted out of the company?

You will always be an organizer. If you want to be separated from the LLC, you need to cease being a member. You do that by transferring your membership interest to someone else.
