QUESTION

Sales tax Amnesty

Asked on Jul 29th, 2012 on Business Law - Texas
More details to this question:
My state is offering a sales tax amenesty, for past taxes due. I want to pay my $188 tax bill but fear coming forth because of possible imprisionment ( 3rd degree felon). In 2011 I reported no sales when in fact there were sales, thus tax fraud. It is no clear to me from the following statments if tax fraud will be forgiven. I really wlecome this amenety program, but sure don''t want to go to prison. What to do????? -------------------------------------------- Does Amnesty Apply to You? It does if you¿ ¿didn''t file a tax report, or ¿underreported tax on a previously filed report, or ¿don¿t have a permit to report and remit Texas taxes.

Amnesty means just that -- you will get a free ride if you pay the taxes due in full. Even without amnesty, there is nothing to stop you from paying the past-due taxes and filing an amended return to show that you have "corrected" your prior filing. This happens all the time. People do not go to jail for $188. Just pay the money.
