QUESTION

Should I receive this item for free?

Asked on Jan 25th, 2017 on Business Law - Illinois
More details to this question:
A couple months ago, I had contacted a company about being interested in a $300 engine part. They took down all of my information including my shipment information and sent me a invoice through PayPal. However I never had the time to pay the invoice and I never ordered the item. Today I was emailed shipment confirmation on a package from fedex that I did not order. I was concerned that I may have been charged for the incorrect item and ended up calling the company to see what was going on. They began looking into it and began to figure out that I hadn't indeed paid for the item. The items was already in fedex hands and was going to be shipped to me as my name, and address were on the shipping label along with the shipment confirmation that the package was coming to me. The company figured out that they made a mistake in sending me the part and tracked the package down, and picked it up at the FedEx facility before it could get to me. Should I still receive this item?

Let me get this straight.  You never ordered or paid for the item.  The seller made a mistake by shipping it to you.  It corrected hat mistake by picking up the item.  All of this cost you nothing.  Yet you think that you should get the item that you never ordered or paid for for free.  Am I missing something?  If you had sent double payment for one item by mistake, do you think the seller should be able to keep the extra money?
