QUESTION

Bullying Not Being Dealt With

Asked on May 18th, 2013 on Civil Rights - New Jersey
More details to this question:
We are having issues with my daughter being bullied in school. We have made several complaints to the principle and representative in charged of bullying. My daughter constantly comes home crying that the same students are taunting, teasing and lying about her in school, when she tells the teachers they indicate to her that she needs to ignore them. That is impossible. There is nothing being done about this and she is told to get witnesses to the altercations or bullying and she does for each altercation. One of the teachers is also bullying and I have called the principle with no response. She calls my child winer #2. My daughter is a child with learning disabilities.

You did not indicate if your child has an IEP although you said she has learning disabilities.  An IEP is an individualized educational plan that should address your daughter's disabilities and be specific to her.  It sounds like you need to schedule a meeting with the child study team to address your concerns before the end of the school year.  Find out who is bullying your child and make a written report of it.  Indicate that the bullying is interfering with your child's ability to learn.
