More details to this question:
The manager of my department resigned. my coworkers and I all applied and interviewed for the open position. After doing very well during the interviews, i found out that I am the frontrunner for the position. This position needs to be filled immediately due to the imense responsibilities. However, after 6 interviews for this position, I am finding out more and more about the position and become less interested. One of the main reasons is the traveling. I am single parent of little ones. I do not want to stop the interview. How can I decline without getting fired or looked upon like a quitter? I thought more and more about the position and I really am not ready for all that it encompasses.

i would work closely with the employer to determine if there are alternatives to the travel schedule. if there are not, i would explain in writing my family situation and why i could not fulfill the responsibilities of the new position.
