I would work with the teacher to have this be a learning experience for all parties. The teacher should be made aware of your circumstances and concerns. Everyone can benefit and make this a positive experience. Ed Dimon, Esq.

New Jersey's Law Against Discrimination is very expansive in its protections, but I do not believe the situation you outline can or should result in the teacher being fired. I am unaware of poverty discrimination. You may be able to make a complaint to the school's human resource department, however it shouldn't claim poverty discrimination. There are other protected classes, such as race, national origin,  age, and others that are grounds for discrimination complaints in NJ. Review them at https://www.nj.gov/oag/dcr/law.html. I'm not sure if any fit your circumstances.
