absolutely. No employer can use any protected classification as a factor in the hiring decision, to reject or offer you the job. Simple example, an employer calls in Mr. Smith for an interview. Sees that he's elderly and then decides to not offer him the job because of his age. Somone gets a resume and tosses it in the garbage because you are a woman and they refuse to consider women for the role. If the woman was equally if not better qualified and her resume is not considered based upon gender: unlawful generally.
