My neighbors dog charges at me teeth bared.

More details to this question:
My neighbors dog charges at me teeth bared. We live in the country. I have a 5' fence around my property, but the neighbor does not. The neighbors house is 500' off the road. I go for a walk on the inside of my fence daily. If her dog is out there he will charge at me. My concern is I have to go outside my fence to get the mail. What can I do if the dog charges at me then. I don't feel like waiting to have an arm paralyzed to just to get my mail.
