QUESTION

Can I sue for slander?

Asked on Apr 27th, 2016 on Libel, Slander and Defamation - Tennessee
More details to this question:
A co-worker has started a rumor that I had an inappropriate encounter with a student. I am an Assistant Principal and supervisor to the co-worker. I have written him up on two occasions and the Principal has let him know he will not be able to return to the school next year. He blames me for this and has begun to start malicious rumors. These rumors have been investigated by the Principal and has been found to be untrue. I want to know if I can sue him for defamation of character or slander?

Yes you can sue for defamation if you can prove that it was the co-worker who started the rumor.
