QUESTION

Can I sue for Slander -

Asked on Feb 12th, 2017 on Libel, Slander and Defamation - Florida
More details to this question:
My husbands ex-wife has been spreading lies about me (daily) for 2.5 years on Facebook. The kind of lies also come with inciting violence. The SAO says they have never seen anything like her. We have a permanent restraining order against her. During this time, I was diagnosed with cancer & could not finish my chemo because of the stress she caused and now I'm fighting to keep the cancer away. I was also a swim instructor working with kids in the summer. She went after his job via calls and emails and they fired him. Other than the lies I know nothing can be done about, I want to know if, according to the statute, these repeated (and believed) posts wld meet the standard: 1) slander about sexual misconduct - does accusing me of having an affair with her then husband meet the standard? They were separated. 2) me holding her husband hostage (yes) and against his will. Theres more but running out of characters. We are having to move bc of her. Can I sue if this effected my health&$$?

You can always sue BUT such cases are rarely "contingent fee" cases where the lawyers get paid from the money they collect in damages.  Many people choose to pursue such case not with an expectation of recovering money but rather to show the otherside they aren't immune from being held responsible or being sued.
