Do I have a case for defamation

Was at a benefit at our local American legion. Sitting at a table with family and friends. And friends of a friend was there who also works for the village of my town a clerk, says in front of everyone did you pay your water bill yet? I said no , she said well it's due Monday I said yes I know this she proceeded to explain how I'm late paying on my bill sometimes in front of everyone
