Does my wife have a case for a libel defamation lawsuit?

My wife has a cousin that lives in a different part of the country, and he has taken to Facebook to publicly humiliate my wife by writing numerous lies that are meant to try and hurt her emotionally and as well as trying to put her career in jeopardy. All of these written comments are fabrications designed specifically to destroy her reputation and even possibly her career.
