QUESTION

false accusation that lead to termination

Asked on Dec 04th, 2013 on Libel, Slander and Defamation - Florida
More details to this question:
I made a complaint to a manager about a coworker and when he was confronted about it, he told them I made homophobic remarks and I was terminated the day after I made my complaint. These accusations are false. I have never even cussed at work and I have other coworkers who can attest to my professionalism. I have contacted HR about it and they told me to "let it go" without further investigation. Can I claim defamation of character in which the claims were written on my termination paperwork and I lost my job?

You may have a defamation case. Biggest issue is whether or not it will be limited to the supervisor, since he likely has little money to actually collect for damages. It will be acontroverted issue I assume that there is bad blood between you that would cause him to lie, etc.
