QUESTION

HIV Related

Asked on Feb 13th, 2017 on Libel, Slander and Defamation - Florida
More details to this question:
My son is openly gay and recently purchased a vehicle. He has had issues with the dealer from the beginning and wanted to transfer his current tag to the new one. They wouldn't transfer his old tag and gave him a new tag that read HIV T11 (Which basically says he has full blown aids). My son does have HIV and struggles with it every day. When the dealer gave him the tag - my son was shocked and said you have got to be kidding. The dealer laughed and said you are gay so you shouldn't mind. There were several sales people and a receptionist involved. They were actually laughing and taking photos as the tag was put on the car. The tag he wanted them to transfer did not expire until July 2017, so there was absolutely no reason why they should have ordered a new tag. Not to mention it is very difficult for me to believe that the DMV just randomly selected HIV T11 as his tag number. Can anything be done?

If this is accurate its undoubtedly terrible. The big issue will be trying to assess the damages from such a thing - but this may be worth suing over simply for the public exposure of something so ridiculous. YOu can all our office at 1-800-922-6442 to discuss further if you like.
