More details to this question:
During a master's level internship, slanderous and degamation statements were made to my university affecting my ability to finish up the last 10 weeks of 4 years of course work. The internship site also did not live up to the university's expectations.

Like many lawsuits, a defamation claim can be brought by filing a Complaint in the appropriate Circuit Court.  Depending on how much you are seeking, you may even be able to bring a claim in the General District Court, which is more user friendly and handles claims up to $25,000. This answer is given in accordance with the laws of Virginia and may not be applicable in any other state.  It should not be construed as legal advice, as that would require a more thorough analysis of all of the facts involved in a specific case.  If you need further information or assistance, please feel free to contact my office for a consultation. Case results depend upon a variety of factors unique to each case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any future case.
