How does one protect oneself from a sociopathic liar?

A sociopathic liar makes false statements and accusations against my character. This results in people thinking that I am the worst person, and leaves me with emotional hurt. How can I stop this sociopaths lies?

You can't. By definition a sociopath wont care about the consequences of thier actions.
