QUESTION

Slander defamation by media

Asked on Sep 05th, 2016 on Libel, Slander and Defamation - Florida
More details to this question:
Yesterday it was brought to my attention that my name was posted in a wpbf 25 news article indicating that I was facing second degree felony charges in a child pornography possession case. I work for the state attorney's office and I notarized the warrant issued for the defendant arrest. The author used my first and last name indicating I notarized the warrant and that "(my last name) also faces a second degree felony charge." Friends and colleagues were calling me trying to see what happened. My brother who works in law enforcement as well, as an officer was also facing a slew of questions. I called the news station and they told me to send an email of "my issue"...no apology no nothing. The since have edited the article but still no apology or ANYTHING. everyone at work is aware of this as well as others as my name is not common...what can I do?

You will likely need to retain a lawyer at your expense to send a  Fla. Stat. 770 notice and go from there. This looks like it is simply an error where someone "mispoke" on air but they should air a retraction.
