QUESTION

Slander/Defermation of Charactor Claim

Asked on Jan 26th, 2015 on Libel, Slander and Defamation - Florida
More details to this question:
I am the VP of a condo board having issues with the president of the board. I have been very up-front regarding my interests in the president following all FL State Statutes as well as Condo Bylaws, however she continues to do what she wants, with or without board approval. To make things more complex, her husband owns a contracting company that has been performing work for the association, now totaling over $550K, and now has a lien. Due to my continued presser on her to step down, she has written an extensive opinion (in her condo Newsletter, not approved by the board) listing numerous things about me that are either not true or taken out of context to appear very negative. In one instance noted I did not pay a bill from a contractor for work on my unit - when in fact I paid the only invoice presented to me. The above does not provide a very clear picture of the issues, however my question is: Do I have a case for slander and/or character deformation that would justify damages

Possibly. The issue with all such cases is the value of the damages as typically these are cases where you will be forced to hire a lawyer on a retainer/hourly rate.
