QUESTION

Can I fire a contractor on my home build?

Asked on Jul 07th, 2023 on Construction Law - Texas
More details to this question:
We are remodeling our home. Electricians sent bid/proposal to complete all rough and finish electrical dated 12/22/22. Electricians are refusing to finish work until other work is finished (floors and paint). This is causing us extra delays and costs incurred in interest and other items. We have asked to them to come and finish now. We want to separate from them and find someone else who will complete the job faster. We have paid them all of the proposed cost except for the final 10% which was to be paid upon completion of finish work and final inspection.

It does not sound like you have valid grounds to fire the electricians.  The final electrical finish-out is customarily done after paint.  It is desirable to finish the painting before affixing the wallplates to the electrical swtiches and outlets.
