I hired a handyman . There was no written contract. He did not show up when he was supposed to the second day. I called and told him not to return to finish the job. He is threatening to put a mechanics lien on my property tomorrow. No payment has been made
You will at least owe him for the work which he completed. If he wants to attach a lien to your property he'll need to take the proper steps to do so, if he attaches an improper lien he may be liable for your damages.
Good Luck!
