is identity theft a crime

More details to this question:
My ex boyfriend and my exroom-mate stole my wallet with all my son and my information inside. I did not know at the time that they would do anything with it I just asumed they just wanted me to keep comming vack like for a reason to come back. But they went and got cable put in my name and now they still have my information and everything and cops say its not a crome??

Yes. Its fraud and possibly theft. Many times law enforcement wont get into the domestic dispute issues interwined these tyoes of allegations. You will need to address this with cable company and any other creditors. You also need to make sure you work your way up the chain for the law enforcement people if you want the ex prosecuted and put in prison, etc.
