QUESTION

Will I be prosecuted for a fake check if I make immediate payment before being charged?

Asked on Apr 25th, 2014 on Consumer Fraud - Florida
More details to this question:
Long story short, I received a commission check for $1800 in commissions from a company. I cashed the check it then turns out the account was closed and upon calling the owner of the company he said he never issued that check. The police were called and a case number was issued, as soon as I found out I made immediate payment for full amount clearing the debt. The company who issued the check is not pressing charges on either myself or whoever signed the check in their company. The place where the check was cashed also said they are just happy it was handled so quickly. I believe the owner of the company is covering for his employee and he just declined knowledge of the check and refused anything else. In the meantime I'm out the $1800 and worried about possible legal charges. I have a completely clean record and am a law abiding citizen. Do I have anything to worry about and how can I go about receiving my payment. This happened in broward county.

You seem oddly worried for someone who knows he did nothing wrong. Thats disconcerting. If you know you did nothing wrong and innocently was provided a bad check, YOU should be the angry person proecuting charges (bad check) and not other way around.
