QUESTION

Can a business refuse a credit card payment?

Asked on Feb 16th, 2015 on Consumer Law - Florida
More details to this question:
I had work done on my truck and I paid for it with a credit card. The work was/is taking extensive time (3 weeks) and the things the man was telling me didn't add up. I disputed the charge and now the man is telling me he won't release my truck to me unless I pay him cash.

The business didn't refuse it....you tried to cheat him out of payment by giving him the card and then disputing it behind his back while trying to get possession. You need to read Fla. Stat. 559 Fla. Motor Vehicle Repair Act about how to handle this. While you can dispute the credit card charge, this is NOT equal to payment nor is this a refusal by the repair shop to accept payment and you have to be careful as there is a mechanics lien on the vehicle for the work done.
