QUESTION

Car dealership charges

Asked on Apr 20th, 2021 on Consumer Law - Florida
More details to this question:
I went in for an oil change. The customer service representative said they would call me after diagnosing necessary work. They never called me to approve any work and charged me $272. It took 5 hours to get out of there and they did not even reset my computer. My question is are they obliged to share an estimate before work is done? Does hooking up the computer for diagnosis automatically reset that computer? Because if it does they never diagnosed my car they simply tacked on work and charged me for it.

This all depends on whether Fla. Stat. 559 applies and what paperwork you signed when the car. Idf they violated that provision they only can charge $100.00.
