I am not a US citizen and had to return to my home country through illness and have a vehicle that is way beyond the end of the lease - and I need to settle it
Essentially, you stole the car. It is probably reported that way, and on repo lists, etc.
Call the leasing company, and say you want to return the car. Drop it off at a dealer. You cannot be arrested for stealing if you bring it back. As to the monetary issues, deal with that later.
