More details to this question:
I recently interviewed for a position and paid out of pocket expenses for an interview in Chicago. The Vendor sent me email to keep and send travel receipts for reimbursement for the trip. A week later, no word back from this guy. What are my legal options to recoup the $500 out of pocket expenses that I spent for airfare and rental car? Do I need to sue this company in small claims court if they fail to pay me for the travel?

I would need to see the emails to determine if they constitute an agreement to reimburse you for the expenses, but assuming it does, you would have the ability to sue the company in small claims court for the monies owed. That being said, you may have to domesticate the judgment in Illinois in case the company does not have assets in NJ. Hopefully, if you advise them of your intentions, they may agree to pay you to avoid the prospect of litigation. Good luck.
