QUESTION

Motorcycle Title

Asked on Nov 01st, 2016 on Consumer Law - Florida
More details to this question:
I recently bought a motorcycle off craigslist. No title but have bill of sale. Went to The DMV to see if I could register it. The bill of sale and the register owner are two different people. The DMV would not give me the register owners name. Its is not reported stolen and still registered till 02/2017. How can I go about contacting the owner or getting this legally registered in my name? The man I bought it from has magically disappeared. So I am stuck with this bike. The police will not take it because its not reported stolen. Lets say the owner reports it stolen. Can I know get in trouble for having it?

In Florida if you have no title, you have ZERO ownership. I would file a police report for fraud and see if the they can contact the owner for you. Either way, you may be out of a bike and the money if the owner says no sale.
